About me

Dr. Agnes Kalibata is a public servant deeply committed to Africa and the global community. With a career rooted in the transformative power of science, policies, programs, and investments, she has dedicated her life to improving societies, communities, and individual livelihoods. Trained as an agricultural scientist and honed in public policy from her early roles in Rwanda, Dr. Kalibata exemplifies the seamless integration of evidence, innovation, and action into impactful policies and practices.

Her journey—beginning from humble origins in a refugee camp—instilled a profound empathy for marginalized communities and a determination to drive sustainable, transformative change. This ethos has shaped her leadership roles in Rwanda, at AGRA (Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa), and as the architect of the 2021 Food Systems Summit. Dr. Kalibata’s passion lies in advancing agricultural transformation as a cornerstone for reducing poverty and achieving food security. She champions the role of science in mobilizing action and fostering investments from both governments and the private sector.

Dr. Kalibata also serves on multiple boards, committees, and commissions, and her insights on sustainable development are sought after globally. She holds a doctorate in Entomology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and continues to push boundaries in her mission to create a hunger-free, poverty-free world.
